General Manager, Eastern Operations,Elk Lake, Ontario

When you join our team as a General Manager, Eastern Operations, you will be responsible for driving operational strategy anddeveloping and supporting high performance leadership teams at their respectivemills in Ontario, which includes Elk Lake, Ear Falls, and Sault Ste. Marie. Thesuccessful candidate will lead high-performance teams, champion safety andenvironmental standards, and deliver strong results aligned with Interfor’score values and business objectives.

We are only looking to hire one General Manager, Eastern Operations but are open to them being based at any of the mills in Ontario that this role oversees (Elk Lake, Ear Falls, or Sault Ste. Marie). There will be regular travel required between those mills.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of their three operations within Ontario.
  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with Mill Managers.
  • Guide the development and implementation of a high performance work system at all operations.
  • Maintain a high level of safety and environmental performance.
  • Establish and maintain quality and production standards for all mills.
  • Maintain clear communication at all levels to facilitate optimum performance.
  • Develop practical solutions for problem areas identified so that long term, sustainable operational, process, interpersonal or leadership performance improvement occurs.
  • Exhibit personal and organizational behavior consistent with Interfor’s Core Values and building value Promise.

What You Offer

  • Proven track record of results in a Mill Manager role or overseeing multiple facilities.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of multi-department supervisory experience within the wood products industry.
  • Post-secondary education in Wood Products, Business, Operations, or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of lumber manufacturing business including equipment, processes, products, optimization.
  • Proven track record in leadership and driving a cultural shift on safety, environmental, business improvement, continuous improvement, and performance management.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude is considered an asset.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience managing through a significant capital project installation and start-up of the mill is preferred.
  • Maintain the highest standards with respect to safety at all times, leading by example and ensuring the team follows all policies, procedures, practices and regulations.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to make decisions based on an understanding of Interfor’s values, goals and strategies.
  • Strong analytical abilities and knowledge of financial processes.
  • Flexibility to effectively respond to continually changing internal and external business conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment.
  • Proven ability to build a strong team and experience in change management.
  • Detail and results oriented.
  • Ability to travel to their respective mills on a regular basis.
