Job description

We are seeking a results-driven General Manager to lead company operations and support continued growth across all departments. In this role, you will oversee project delivery, lead multidisciplinary teams, optimize resources, and reinforce a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability. Your leadership will play a key role in strengthening client relationships, improving operational performance, and ensuring the company achieves its strategic and financial objectives.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction leader with a proven track record of delivering complex projects, developing high-performing teams, and driving business growth.

This role is based out of the Leduc office and has responsibilities across Edmonton and area; applicants should be prepared for both planned and unplanned travel as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and direct the activities of all construction operations departments.
  • Lead tender review meetings to assess scope, production assumptions, construction approach, and competitive positioning.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings to review project specifications, confirm scope, and establish the overall construction strategy to meet client requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations Manager to review construction methods, schedules, and resource plans to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Oversee and review maintenance, project, and other critical schedules, including associated budgets and resource allocations.
  • Identify and pursue strategic business development opportunities to diversify operations and improve profitability.
  • Mentor and develop direct reports to ensure they build the capabilities required for both current and future leadership roles.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients to support sustained company growth.
  • Ensure the company safety program is effectively implemented and consistently followed across all operations, including conducting regular site inspections and driving corrective actions.
  • Review all incident investigations and implement preventative measures to reduce recurrence.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and all applicable Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Monitor employee adherence to safety rules, procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Promote and maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment across all sites and facilities.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years supervisory experience in construction operations, site management, or project leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of civil construction, including earthworks, underground utilities, and heavy civil projects.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of construction methods, equipment utilization, and industry safety practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry software (B2W, Eclipse, Bluebeam or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience in resource planning, cost control, and safety management.
  • Strategic Planning & Decision-Making Ability to optimize project workflows and resource management.
  • Leadership & Mentorship – Strong coaching skills to develop direct reports and field teams.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution – proactive in resolving on-site and operational challenges.
  • Operational efficiency & cost control – strong analytical skills to track performance metrics and drive profitability.
