This position offers a unique opportunity to assist with the day-to-day operations of a Roman Catholic Church based in Cambridge, as the General Manager/Rector’s PA. In this standalone role, you will be pivotal in coordinating the smooth running of the church, whilst also providing administrative support to the Clergy in their service to the parish.

Applications are welcome from candidates with backgrounds including operations, general management, and/or personal assistant support. You will be comfortable working alone, confident in using your own initiative and judgement. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will enjoy engaging with the community and be able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels.

This is a full-time role, working 8.00am-4.30pm (Mon-Fri). You will be based on-site, and parking is available for employees.

As the General Manager and PA, your responsibilities will include:

  • Personal Assistant to the Rector: Daily communication with the Rector and relevant clergy; diary management; record keeping of communications; filing and handling correspondence.
  • Parish Secretary: Responding to general enquiries; operating internal phones and communication systems; answering visitors; handling post; preparing newsletters; minute-taking and report processing; managing tickets and papers for parish groups; maintaining online presence via social media.
  • Maintenance: Maintaining the office environment; handling contracts and agreements for maintenance; gathering quotations; arranging contractor visits; reviewing maintenance contracts for value and service.
  • Child Protection Officer: Familiarity with legislation; undertaking DBS checks; liaising with parish adults; ensuring responsibilities are known; maintaining confidential records; initiating action when needed.
  • Line Management: Supervising non-pastoral staff, such as cleaning staff.
  • Handling bookings and events: Coordinating diary entries for baptisms, weddings, funerals, parish outings, and ticketed events; organizing transport; managing event fees; recording in registers.
  • Ordering stock: Managing stationery and office supplies, keeping records.
  • Car Park Monitoring: Recording lettings and waitlists; addressing misuse incidents.
  • Health and Safety: Ensuring protocols are up-to-date, including first aid supplies, posters, and risk assessments.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

    • Proven experience supporting senior roles.
    • Experience in Health & Safety, Risk Management, Facilities, or Estates Management (advantageous).
    • Proactivity and confidence in using own initiative.
    • Excellent organizational skills and sensitivity within a church environment.
    • Strong interpersonal skills at all levels.
    • Excellent written communication skills.
    • Discretion and diplomacy with confidential matters.
    • High accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and ability to create print and online media.
    • Willingness to learn new skills and technology.
    • Flexibility to meet role demands.
    • Interest in charities or churches (desirable).
    • Understanding of Catholic or Christian churches (desirable).
