GENERAL MANAGER

Position Summary: Reporting to the National Operations Manager, this position takes full responsibility for managing BTN’s Schomberg division. The focus is to obtain profit contribution by leading staff in line with strategic goals and business objectives set by senior management. Responsibilities include budget development and accountability, overseeing production, purchasing, shipping and receiving, inventory management, facility and capital planning, and developing top performers through leadership and recruitment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Budgeting
  2. Create and develop realistic targets for costs and processes in collaboration with the National Operations Manager.
  3. Monitor benchmarking targets to measure efficiencies and process improvements in real time.
  4. Gather and present quotes and estimates for capital and process improvements.
  1. Production
  2. Assist in planning and executing the production plan with the production manager.
  3. Ensure production protocols are followed and information is accurately reported.
  1. Purchasing
  2. Collaborate with the Purchasing Manager for procurement planning.
  3. Ensure purchase orders are entered and procedures followed.
  1. Distribution / Logistics
  2. Coordinate with the Distribution and Logistics Managers on shipments.
  3. Maintain quality standards for shipments.
  1. Inventory Management
  2. Implement procedures for accurate weekly availability and biannual inventory counts.
  3. Keep inventory records current and accurate.
  1. Staff Management
  2. Manage all division staff, define roles, and coordinate with HR on policies and staffing needs.
  3. Motivate staff and conduct performance evaluations annually.
  4. Provide training, coaching, and discipline as needed.
  1. Reporting
  2. Submit reports as requested and perform ad hoc reporting.

The Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • University/College Degree
  • Minimum 2 years of managerial experience
  • Experience in nursery industry is an asset
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Problem-solving abilities
