Job summary

Lock Search Group is seeking a General Manager to lead our client’s business in Ontario. You will deliver operational excellence, financial results, and customer satisfaction while shaping strategic direction and growth.

You will drive end-to-end supply chain, build a high-performing team, and ensure GMP and Health Canada compliance. A science background and 7+ years leadership in pharma/animal health or related sectors are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field or 10+ years in industrial chemical/pharma/manufacturing sales.
  • 7+ years in managerial roles with demonstrated growth and talent development.
  • Strong understanding of chemistry-based products and regulated environments.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across operations, commercial, finance, and technical functions.

Job description

Reporting to the President of the parent organization, the General Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership and performance of our client’s business, with full accountability for operational excellence, financial results, commercial growth, customer satisfaction, and organizational capability. The General Manager will develop and execute the business strategy, ensure safe and efficient operations, drive profitable growth, and build a high-performing team while aligning the business with broader strategic objectives.The General Manager will be accountable for:

  • Shaping the work environment and delivering standards of excellence and quality to customers across products and services.
  • Crafting a strategic vision, driving optimized productivity through operational and sales strategies, and establishing clear accountabilities.
  • Marshalling resources to achieve financial targets, including revenue, sales margins, and EBITDA.
  • Developing high-performing talent and strengthening the capabilities of the broader team.
  • Fostering an engaged workforce through initiatives that elevate the employee experience and, in turn, the customer experience.
  • Improving organizational effectiveness by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability, developing effective processes, and implementing innovative changes.
  • Identifying opportunities for expansion and growth through new business relationships and commercial initiatives.
  • Leading the end-to-end supply chain, including procurement, production planning, inventory management, warehousing, logistics, and maintenance, while maximizing operational performance and asset utilization.
  • Providing guidance and feedback to strengthen team capabilities and performance.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to a healthy and safe working environment.

As a senior leader within the broader organization, the General Manager is expected to actively engage with peers and colleagues in broader strategic organizational initiatives. The General Manager will serve as a change agent for organizational initiatives and projects, providing support, direction, and leadership within the business and across the broader organization.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished business leader with experience leading a business unit within a larger animal health, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, or life sciences organization. They possess a strong commercial mindset, an understanding of chemistry-based products and regulated markets, and a proven ability to identify, develop, and commercialize new business opportunities that drive profitable growth and market diversification.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field, or a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in industrial chemical, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or sales.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in managerial/leadership roles, with demonstrated experience in business growth and talent development. Preferred experience leading a business unit with full P&L accountability within the animal health, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, biotechnology, or related manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong understanding of chemistry-based or science-driven products and regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across operations, commercial, finance, and technical functions.
  • Must meet Health Canada Class A Precursor requirements for “Responsible Person in Charge,” subject to a clean criminal check and maintaining status.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, QA systems, OHSA, and TDG; knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is an asset.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, strategic partnerships, and commercialization of new products or markets.
  • Experience diversifying revenue streams and expanding into new market segments.
  • Proven ability to balance operational excellence with strategic growth initiatives.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven to lead the business toward maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in change management and conflict management, including overseeing challenging employee situations.
  • Commitment to excellence and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to execute with excellence.
  • Outstanding team player with a commitment to the greater good.
  • Commitment to the organization’s applicable Code of Conduct, confidentiality requirements, and employee policies.
  • Successful completion of appropriate GMP and Health and Safety training.
  • Occasional travel between corporate locations may be required.
