Position Overview

Senior Operations Manager – Chemistry

Location: 6740 Campobello Rd, Mississauga, ON L5N 2L8, Canada (Permanent, Full‑time)

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain systems that ensure proper methodologies are used in conformance to client requirements.
  • Administer corporate human‑resource programs relating to recruitment, retention, compensation, training, EEO, performance appraisal and record documentation.
  • Analyze and interpret data, guide corrective actions, and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures before releasing results.
  • Support company initiatives, collaborate with other department leaders to implement new methods, and train staff accordingly.
  • Communicate emerging client requirements to departmental personnel and keep them informed.
  • Work with internal and external auditors to provide information that ensures quality systems are utilized in testing procedures.
  • Maintain expertise in food science and related technologies, utilizing library resources and peer expertise.
  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other required systems.
  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes.
  • Drive industrial performance initiatives as directed.
  • Identify and develop emerging talent within the managed location.
  • Perform final authorization release of laboratory data.
  • Review KQSI, OPI, OT, and % OTD data for proficiency testing and performance metrics.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years relevant work experience in microbiology, chemistry, or food science.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, or food science to supervise laboratory activities and interpret results.
  • General knowledge of LIMS required for analyzing results and correcting discrepancies.
  • Client‑relation skills to address client questions and advise on processes.
  • Proficiency in standard operating methods as a microbiologist, chemist, or food scientist.
  • Budgeting skills to determine laboratory budget and ensure financial efficiency.
  • Organizational and planning skills to arrange work assignments and maintain smooth operations.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to determine solutions to laboratory issues.
  • Independent judgment in making operational decisions that impact laboratory performance.
  • Effective communication and coordination with laboratory staff, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations and standard practice manuals.
Management & Leadership
  • Supervise all departmental personnel, including hiring, development, feedback, and performance evaluation.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities with other departments and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership to other operations managers and supervisors as needed.
Work Environment

The role is laboratory‑based with controlled lighting and temperature. Safety equipment such as masks and ventilation hoods may be required. Standing positions, color‑difference detection, and occasional overnight travel (less than two nights a month) are anticipated.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $115,000 - $126,000 CAD per annum.

Potential bonus: up to 10% of base, based on performance.
