Job description

The University of Lethbridge Grounds Maintenance Department is seeking a qualified General Maintenance Worker to start as soon as possible. This casual position begins on October 28th, 2024, and continues until March 28th, 2024.

The incumbent will report to the Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance, and will be responsible for various grounds maintenance duties, including:

1. Snow clearing
2. Hand shoveling
3. Light-duty vehicle operation
4. Garbage pickup and removal
5. Leaf and branch pickup, removal, and chipping
6. Shop maintenance and cleaning

This role requires working evenings and weekends during winter and may involve assisting with snow clearing outside scheduled shifts.

The candidate must be capable of handling strenuous activities for extended periods (up to 2 hours).

Hourly Wage: $19.31

Hours of Work: 6 – 37.5 hours per week, typically on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with potential for other days and times, including mornings and evenings.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a high school diploma, a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s License, and a clean driver’s abstract (no more than 6 demerits, with a recent record within 3 months). They should also have at least two years of experience with hand tools, power tools, and general repair of grounds maintenance equipment.

The ability to maintain effective working relationships with University staff and the public is essential.
