Our Nova Scotia Team is growing and we're looking for someone to join our Building Service Team (BST) ! The Building Services Team focuses on maintaining and servicing our properties, and is responsible for ensuring our properties remain in top condition, both inside and out. You will work closely with our BST, BAs (Building Ambassadors - our front-line team working and living in the buildings!), and our Operations team to ensure all work is completed quickly & efficiently, with a focus on upholding our 4 pillars : Community, Cleanliness, Opportunity, and Safety & Security. For this role, you will be required to regularly travel to our properties throughout HRM, NS. The salary range for this role is $60,000 – $75,000.

The Role

As a Plumbing focused BST member, you will be the first point of contact for the Buildings in HRM. VIDA owns and operates 1200 residential units in HRM. In addition, this job includes supporting minor general repair and maintenance needs in Unit and Common areas. You will work both as a Team member on the VIDA HRM Building Service Team. You should be energized by both solo and collaborative working environments.

As a Plumber BST you will answer the plumbing needs for the full portfolio in HRM. Expertise should include knowledge of :

  • Replacing tub spouts
  • Finding leaks behind drywall
  • Shutting off water
  • Replacing toilets
  • Tub surround or glazing
  • Changing out tap replacements

In addition, this role includes :

  • Being a building expert for your Team and leading :

Unit Turns

Preparing apartments for new residents including assessing the unit to determine necessary repairs, budgeting, project management, and execution.

  • Supporting the Leasing Team by ensuring that unit turn timelines are met and units are cleaned to VIDA standards before new customer moves in.
  • Repair and Maintenance
  • Emergency R&M
  • Developing a seasonal maintenance plan (plan and execution)
  • Providing Team Support (supporting Building Ambassadors, Team Captains, other BST members)
  • Working with the team to identify opportunities to improve security, common areas, energy efficiencies, and curb appeal of the properties (ensuring they meet VIDA standards)
  • Community Contractor Training

Provide education and training to VIDA residents on how to properly complete maintenance tasks such as painting, caulking, snaking drains etc. to build a sense of community & strengthen our team of contractors.

  • Please be advised the unit turns can include challenging environments where PPE gear is required and provided.

What you need to succeed in this role :

  • Knowledge & experience with various aspects of building repair & maintenance in multifamily residential settings

Specifically flooring, drywall repair, basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills.

  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use various tech programs and apps, including Outlook, Teams chat, spreadsheets, and forms, and the ability to quickly learn and navigate new tech.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service to our residents, vendors, and community partners.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members.
  • Organization & capability of managing multiple maintenance & repair projects at one time.
  • Proven plumbing expertise.
