The Ajax packaging facility, where these positions are based, is one of the largest employers in Ajax and Durham Region. We provide innovative packaging solutions to the beverage market and serve name brand customers such as Coca Cola, Pepsi, Labatt and Molson to name a few.

The Smurfit Westrock Ajax facility is looking for a General Maintenance to join our Maintenance team. The General Maintenance crew member is responsible for ensuring the inside and outside of the plant is kept clean and safe for all our employees and visitors.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

Building Maintenance (80%)

• Mop & sweep all aisles
• Clean first aid room
• Keep flammable liquid room clean and safe
• Remove snow by main entrance (winter)
• Empty garbage cans in all areas of the plant
• Empty compactor when full
• Supply washroom areas with soap and towels
• Ensure earplugs are available in designated areas
• Clean water fountains on a regular basis
• Clean up outside of building and parking lot
• Clean and fill eye wash stations
• Other duties as assigned

Equipment Maintenance (20%)

• Clean/replace all air filters on plant equipment
• Clean/replace filters on web cleaners as per schedule
• Work with maintenance crew as needed
• Replace filters on all water filters as per manufacturing instructions
• Other duties as assigned

What you need to succeed:

• Minimum 3 years of experience working as a General Maintenance, Custodian or equivalent position
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment would be preferred
• Experience safely operating a Ride On Floor Sweeper considered an asset
• Must be Safety conscious and work with a high level of hazard awareness.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work under limited supervision.
• Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
• Must be able to maintain good attendance and work in a "Team Environment".

Shift Schedule:

Must be able to work Monday to Friday Days (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM) with the ability to work overtime if needed.
