Job summary

Toromont Cat is seeking a General Machinist to perform custom repair and restoration of mechanical parts for heavy machinery. The role emphasizes safety, manual and CNC machining, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace across our Eastern Canada locations.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years in a General/Automotive Machinist role, holds a 429A Red Seal, and can read tolerances from drawings. Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to changing demands is essential.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years as a General/Automotive Machinist in a custom or Tool Room environment with primary experience in machinery component repair and rebuild.
• Certificate of Qualification as a General Machinist (429A Red Seal).
• Proficient with CNC & manual lathes, boring mills (horizontal), vertical mills and drills; emphasis on CNC machining.
• Adaptable to a continuously changing work environment and demands.
• Experience with ferrous, non-ferrous, medium carbon and hardened steels an asset.
• Ability to measure machined components using precision tooling (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, etc.).
• Computer literacy for tolerances and drawing details stored in a database.
• Willing and able to work flexible hours to support business needs.

• Reuse and salvage assessments of engine blocks, crankshafts & camshafts.
• Reuse and salvage of parts requiring machining.
• Custom repair and restoration of mechanical parts and components.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace and perform basic maintenance.
• Restore damaged steel and cast iron components by line boring, disassembly and reassembly.
• Maintain inventory of materials used for fabrication and report usage to projects.

Our General Machinist is responsible for the custom repair and restoration of mechanical parts and components relating to machinery repair.

Pay Type

Full Time, Permanent

Compensation

$46.55

In a typical day, YOU will:

• Responsible for reuse and salvage assessments of engine blocks, crankshafts & camshafts
• Responsible for reuse and salvage of any parts requiring machining
• Custom repair and restoration of mechanical parts and components relating to machinery repair
• Maintaining a clean and organized workspace & performing basic maintenance functions
• Restore damaged steel and cast iron components by line boring, disassembling and assembling of relative components
• Maintain an inventory of materials used for fabrication process and account to various projects based on usage

Must-haves for this role:

• A minimum of 3 years as a General/Automotive Machinist in a custom or Tool Room environment with primary experience in machinery component repair and rebuild
• A certificate of Qualification as a General Machinist (429A Red Seal)
• Proficient with CNC & manual lathes, boring mills (horizontal), vertical mills and drills and hand tools associated with general machining. Emphasis on CNC machining.
• Adaptable to a continuously changing work environment and demands
• Experience with ferrous, non-ferrous, medium carbon and hardened steels an asset
• Ability to measure machined components using various types of precision tooling including but not limited to calipers, ID & OD micrometers, depth gauges, profilometers, indicators & scales
• Computer literacy an asset as tolerances & drawing details are found in a database
• Willing and able to work flexible hours in support of the business need
