Job description
Overview

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager and under the general supervision of the Charge Cardiac Sonographer, the incumbent is responsible for obtaining high-quality cardiac ultrasound images and related structures for the Cardiologist who will interpret the examination. The incumbent may also assist in the education of new staff, students, patients and visitors; assisting in research endeavors within the department.

Experience
  • One (1) year recent experience as a diagnostic cardiac sonographer preferred.
  • Previous experience using healthcare information systems is preferred (e.g., Radiology Information System (RIS) and Admission, Discharge, Transfer System (ADT), NESS, EPR, eChart).
  • Experience with analysis software for cardiovascular imaging (e.g., ImageVault, View Point).
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete High School education, Manitoba Standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a CMA accredited Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program.
SPECIAL TRAINING
  • Skilled in the use of highly technical cardiovascular ultrasound equipment and probes in order to produce complete anatomic and functional information for the Cardiologist to interpret.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Certified with Sonography Canada as a Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS) and/or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Must maintain registry status by obtaining the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.
  • Must maintain current BCLS (Level C) in accordance with the applicable policy.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to apply independent judgment and clinical interpretive knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications and proficiency in related software applications.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have the ability to adapt readily, and respond with initiative, to a changing environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
