Job summary

Impact Recruitment is helping a growing organization fill a key in-house Legal Counsel role. The successful candidate will bring Aboriginal law expertise and deep experience in self-government to advise senior leadership, support development initiatives, and oversee external counsel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Be called to the BC Bar and be in good standing.
  • Ideal 7 - 10 years of post call experience.
  • Extensive experience with Aboriginal Law.
  • Strong understanding of self-government structures and implementation processes.
  • Highly organized with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide confident, practical legal opinions and advice to senior leadership, Council, committees, and internal stakeholders
  • Advise on matters relating to Aboriginal law, self-government, and self-government implementation
  • Identify legal and operational issues, assess risk, and provide clear recommendations to help move initiatives forward
  • Manage the organization's broader self-government implementation plan by navigating legal and operational considerations
  • Support significant organizational initiatives involving development, housing, administration, and continued growth
