About The Role

On-site | Casual

The General Assistant will assist in all tasks and will be responsible for supporting and performing duties in the sample receiving, logistics, and administration areas of the client services department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and organization of bottle orders to client-supplied specifications, including sample cooler control, storage, and maintenance.
  • To list, schedule, or otherwise control the supply of pre-scheduled sampling materials or services in support of the laboratory’s clients.
  • Maintenance and organization of the sample prep room, bottle stocks, and preservation of sample bottles.
  • Assist with the proper packing and daily shipping of samples to clients and ALS network labs.
  • Assist the logistics department with internal laboratory sample and waste disposal programs to meet applicable industry standards;
  • Assist with ordering routine lab supplies and equipment using the laboratory MEOL system;
  • Perform sample layout and labeling assistance as required;
  • Receive client samples according to accepted protocols;
  • Unpacking, organizing, and prioritizing sublet samples and client samples received throughout the day;
  • Follow safety requirements in Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns or incidents to Safety Rep;
  • Working in a team environment that will include covering areas needing assistance;
  • Conform to required working hours unless changes are approved by supervisor or manager;
  • Assist Account Managers with report organizing, mailing, and filing.
  • Assist with Sample Disposal and Label checking for accuracy.
  • Additional duties as required by the supervisor
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

About You

  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to handle a fluctuating workload and prioritize work;
  • Excellent customer services skills, verbal skills including telephone answering;
  • Good computer skills, including email, Microsoft suite;
  • Must be well organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Must be capable of working with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask;

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Some experience working in a fast-paced, production, and/or preparation environment;

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg for short distances;
  • Ability to sit or stand for a full shift;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours.
