Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the General Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, month end processing, account reconciliations, AP/AR processing, balance sheet review and other general accounting work in conformance with established policies, practices, and procedures.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has a strong commitment to deadlines and the team, is detail and process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work, and experience with the end-to-end accounts payable process, navigating through an ERP and internal systems, pulling and formatting reports, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day accounting duties, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end and year end close processes, financial reporting and reconciliations.
  • Responsible for financial information integration between ERP and in-house Software
  • Responsible for preparing and booking Agent Override accruals.
  • Responsible for the timely month end close of multiple entities, including preparation of all JE’s, accruals and monthly reconciliations.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of corporate credit card and staff travel expenses.
  • Assist Accounting Manager with the annual year-end financial audit.
  • Prepare and file GST tax returns ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and deadline.
  • Ad-hoc reporting and projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Preference is given to candidates with a travel industry background.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 2+ years of experience in a general accounting role or similar type role
  • Completion or pursuit of CPA designation is an asset.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting in a mid to large sized company
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with high-volume work with the ability to manage multiple new projects as they arise.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and reporting practices
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Experience with MS Dynamics (Navision) and Tipalti is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office – intermediate to advanced Excel is required.
