Description

The general accountant provides support and assists with data collection, cash application, accounts payable, and analysis related to various projects as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for month-end close, including bank reconciliation, credit card, AR and AP sub-ledger reconciliation, month-end documentation/adjusting entries, reporting, and analysis.
  • Maintain finance and accounting policies, as well as standard operating procedures.
  • Perform variance analysis for AR and AP control accounts, as well as deferred revenue accounts, to identify root causes and make appropriate adjusting journal entries.
  • Support AR and AP by reviewing complex transaction entries to ensure compliance with accounting policies.
  • Conduct monthly analysis of AP accruals and GTIN revenue accruals, making necessary journal entries.
  • Participate in month-end financial review by providing supporting information and making required adjusting entries.
  • Prepare monthly HST/GST remittances and quarterly QST remittance.
  • Prepare reports and supporting documents for auditors during interim and year-end audits, and gather documents as per audit schedule.
  • Gather and validate requirements from departments and systems, build financial models, and maintain data accuracy.
  • Collect, validate, and cleanse master data from various sources for specific projects.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Build trust and credibility with internal stakeholders.
  • Provide backup to other functions when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as delegated or assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • University degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Commerce), with current enrollment in a recognized accounting program (e.g., CGA, CMA).
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, costing, reconciliation, reporting, AR/AP/GL, including month-end processes; industry experience is an asset.
  • Proven high proficiency in MS Office Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, macros), Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Experience with ERP systems, especially Great Plains, is an asset.
  • Project management experience is an asset.
  • Team player with ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, meeting tight and changing deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of interacting professionally at all levels.
