Job summary

YWCA Prince Albert Inc. is seeking a part-time shelter support worker to guide residents, provide life skills, and promote independence at the Central Avenue Shelter.

You will help maintain a safe, clean facility and assist residents with daily needs while working within a team and responding to crises as needed. The role requires valid Saskatchewan driver's license, experience in human services, strong communication, and the ability to lift heavy items.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License with clean abstract.
  • Practical experience in the human services field.
  • Experience with mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or cognitive disabilities.
  • Maintain professional boundaries per YWCA Code of Conduct and Ethics Agreement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in crisis situations.
  • Flexible, reliable, and open to continuous learning.
  • Must be able to lift heavy items and perform heavy cleaning.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture with reconciliation mindset.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong computer skills.
  • Must pass Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; follow policies and procedures.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Excellent people skills in crises.

Responsibilities

  • Guide residents, provide support and advocacy toward independence.
  • Be a good role model to youth/clients.
  • Manage challenging behavior and verbal de-escalation.
  • Maintain building security and perform room/bag checks.
  • Perform major housecleaning and daily cleaning tasks.
  • Report repairs or replacements to maintenance.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops.
  • Communicate with Manager/Supervisors and coworkers as a team.
  • Provide feedback on client issues and incidents.
  • Respond to crises during no-office hours and contact management for major crises.
  • Adhere to YWCA Prince Albert policies incl. MSS, CPS, YO & CSC.
  • Prioritize work, work unsupervised, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Work evenings, weekends, holidays; include shift work and overnights.
  • Report child abuse or neglect as required.
  • Perform any other duties requested by management.

Job description

Part Time: Guaranteed 20 hours a week.

Responsibilities:To work with the clients of the YWCA Central Avenue Shelter, providing guidance, support, and life skills to empower and promote independence. To maintain a clean and secure facility and assist the residents when necessary.

Reports to:Gateway House Supervisors & Manager

Qualifications:

Duties:

  • Guide the residents, providing support & advocacy as they transition into adulthood/independence.
  • Must be a good role model to youth/clients.
  • Manage challenging behavior, verbal de-escalation.
  • Maintain building security, perform room/bag checks.
  • Ensure major housecleaning duties are completed as well as everyday cleaning/chores.
  • Ensure room checks are completed on a consistent basis, report any need for repairs or replacement of furniture, blinds, etc. to the maintenance team.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops as required.
  • Communicate with the Manager/Supervisors and co-workers as part of a cohesive team.
  • Provide feedback to the Manager/Supervisors on client issues, major events, and incident reports.
  • Attend to crises as they arise during no-office hours. Contact the Manager/Supervisor in the event of a major crisis.
  • Ensure all YWCA Prince Albert policies are adhered to.
  • Ensure all policies related to MSS, CPS, YO & CSC are adhered to.
  • Prioritize work, attending to the most urgent needs of the clientele first.
  • Work unsupervised.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work both evenings & weekends, as well as holidays.
  • Must be able to work shift work & overnights.
  • Must report any instances of Child Abuse or neglect including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional maltreatment, neglect, & domestic violence.
  • Any other duties as requested by management.

All YWCA Prince Albert positions contain a three-month probation period.
