The Role.

GMC are currently looking for an experienced Gas Meter Reader to join our team nationwide.

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

As a Gas Meter Reader, you will be responsible for accurately reading gas meters at residential and commercial properties on behalf of Gas Networks Ireland. Employed by GMC Utilities Group, you will play a key role in ensuring the timely and correct collection of consumption data to support billing and regulatory compliance.

The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:

• Accurately record gas meter readings using handheld digital devices.
• Follow assigned routes efficiently to ensure timely completion of scheduled reads.
• Interact professionally with customers, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
• Report meter access issues, safety concerns, or meter irregularities to supervisors.
• Comply with all safety protocols and procedures as outlined by GMC Utilities Group and Gas Networks Ireland.
• Maintain daily logs and documentation as required.
• Safeguard customer and company data in accordance with GDPR and internal policies.

• Full, clean driving licence (required).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Desirable

• Previous experience in a similar role (utilities, field services, logistics, or meter reading).
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to field work.
• Familiarity with Gas Networks Ireland systems or processes is an advantage.
