Job description

We’re seeking a certified Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician with extensive experience in gas compression systems. Strong knowledge of Caterpillar engines, especially the G3600 series, is a major asset. This field-based position involves commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairing compression equipment at remote oil and gas sites.
You’ll play a key role supporting compressor stations, natural gas processing facilities, and other infrastructure. The work blends independent problem-solving in the field with collaborative interaction alongside supervisors, technical sales, and product support teams.

Gas Compression Field Technician (Red Seal HET)
Location: Based out of Red Deer, AB

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Wage: $53.42/hr to start, increases to $55.51/hr after 4-month probation

Field Coverage Area: Between Edson, Hinton, Calgary, and AB provincial borders

️ Occasional out-of-town/camp work required

Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing:
Troubleshoot and repair natural gas compression engines (e.g., CAT G3600 series).
Perform top and bottom end overhauls, diagnostics, and commissioning.
Travel to and service remote field sites across Western Alberta.
Maintain strong customer relationships while ensuring all safety protocols are met.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, technical support, and customers.
Maintain Finning's Customer Service Commitment and documentation standards.

Qualifications
What You Bring:
Red Seal** Journeyman Certification – Heavy Equipment Technician
Minimum 3+ years in field-based HD or gas compression service work
Proven hands-on experience with Caterpillar natural gas engines
Comfortable working independently in remote or high-pressure environments
WHMIS, respirator fit test capable (no large beards)
Clean 5-year driver’s abstract

Assets:
Experience in gas compression and/or power generation
Field service experience with CAT, Waukesha, Ariel, or Cummins systems
Finning S-Level course completion (or in progress)
Familiarity with pneumatic/hydraulic/electrical systems in compression
