PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Gas Bar Attendant will be responsible for the sale of fuel and other automotive products, as well as all in-store merchandise, including tobacco products, lottery tickets, and sundries. Responsibilities include processing credit or debit card transactions and validating checks using an electronic scanner and cash register. Other duties include fueling, cleaning, and lubricating vehicles, and performing maintenance of the property, both indoors and outdoors, with a consistently high focus on customer service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Refuel vehicles
  2. Perform minor service and maintenance such as washing windshields and checking fluid levels and air pressure
  3. Fill propane tanks, where required
  4. Receive payment from customers
  5. Ensure restricted products (e.g., tobacco, lottery tickets) are sold only to customers of the required age by requesting appropriate identification
  6. Perform minor property maintenance duties such as sweeping the service station lot, trimming shrubs, and cleaning retail space and washrooms
  7. Answer customers' questions and provide accurate directions
  8. Compute and record totals of transactions
  9. Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts
  10. Establish or identify prices of goods and services, and tabulate bills
  11. Greet customers entering establishments
  12. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers
  13. Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas
  14. Monitor checkout stations for adequate cash and staffing
  15. Process merchandise returns and exchanges
  16. Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits
  17. Resolve customer complaints
  18. Compile and maintain non-monetary reports and records
  19. Keep balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions
  20. Keep islands/cement pads, pumps, and high-traffic areas free of debris
  21. Stock shelves and mark prices on shelves and items
  22. Change fuel prices on signage

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Manual dexterity required
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 70lbs may be required
  • Will perform work both indoors and outdoors
  • Outdoor work may be performed in inclement weather, in a wide range of temperatures
