Gas Bar Attendant - UPI Energy FS - Chatham, ON

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Gas Bar Attendants will be responsible for the sale of fuel and other automotive products, as well as all in-store merchandise, including tobacco products, lottery tickets, and sundries. Responsibilities include processing credit or debit card transactions and validating checks using an electronic scanner and cash register. Other responsibilities will include fueling, cleaning, and lubricating vehicles, and performing maintenance of the property, both indoors and outdoors. All duties will be performed with a consistently high focus on customer service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Perform minor service and maintenance such as washing the windshield and checking fluid levels and air pressure.
  2. Fill propane tanks, where required.
  3. Receive payment from customers.
  4. Ensure that restricted products (e.g. tobacco, lottery tickets) are sold only to customers that are of the required age by requesting appropriate identification.
  5. Perform minor property maintenance duties such as sweeping service station lot, trimming shrubs, scrubbing service bays, and cleaning of retail space and washrooms.
  6. Provide accurate directions where possible.
  7. Compute and record totals of transactions.
  8. Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
  9. Establish or identify prices of goods and services, and tabulate bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners.
  10. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
  11. Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
  12. Monitor checkout stations to ensure that they have adequate cash available and that they are staffed appropriately.
  13. Process merchandise returns and exchanges.
  14. Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
  15. Resolve customer complaints.
  16. Compile and maintain non-monetary reports, shift-off reports, and records.
  17. Keep periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions.
  18. Keep islands/cement pads, pumps, and high traffic areas free and clear of debris, including sweeping debris, shoveling snow, and salting when necessary.
  19. Stock shelves, and mark prices on shelves and items.
  20. Change fuel prices on signage.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
  2. Customer service and/or retail experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Manual dexterity required.
  2. Overtime as required.
  3. Lifting or moving up to 70lbs may be required.
  4. Will perform work both indoors and outdoors.
  5. Outdoor work may be performed in inclement weather, in a wide range of temperatures.
