Role
We have an immediate opening for a Garage Door Installer Helper in the Vancouver branch. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Helper will work as part of a two-person crew, assisting in the service and/or installation of residential or commercial doors while learning on the job from the Garage Door Technician. This is a permanent, full-time position with opportunities for advancement.
Responsibilities
- Champion safety standards
- Provide superior customer service
- Use hand tools, electric tools, and ladders safely and effectively
- Interact regularly with warehouse staff, project managers, customers, other trades, and safety personnel
- Follow instructions from the Lead Technician and support the team
- Assist in installing various types of doors including Sectional, Rolling steel, Fire Doors, High Speed Doors, Security Grilles, Roll Shutters, Bifold
- Diagnose and repair overhead doors, providing solutions and carrying out necessary work
- Communicate and coordinate with the scheduler regarding issues, parts, and job scope
- Welding for installations or repairs if needed
- Assess job scope at the start of each job, noting any discrepancies
- Travel out of town for installation and service work as required
- Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
- Assist in estimating person-hours and costs for service calls
- Lift at least 75 pounds or more depending on the job
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Complete and submit all required paperwork daily
- Participate in on-call rotation for service
- Pass pre-employment screening including drug, alcohol, and health assessments
- Transport products safely using trailers and manlifts
- Maintain a strong safety mindset
- Attend and be punctual daily
- Keep safety training and tickets up to date
- Perform general warehouse duties and other tasks as assigned
Skills
- Resourcefulness, integrity, strong work ethic, and teamwork skills
- Comfort with heights (ladders & lifts)
- Mechanical aptitude
- Strong safety awareness
- Willingness to learn and progress in the trade
Qualifications
- 3-6 months’ experience in a relevant trade (construction, welding, millwright, etc.)
- Relevant safety training and tickets are assets (WHMIS, Fall Protection, First Aid, etc.)
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Pass pre-employment screening
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Provide current Driver’s Abstract at own cost if hired
