Position Overview:

Sony Imageworks Vancouver is seeking FX Artists!


Responsibilities:

  1. Design, create, and animate digital effects elements and methodology for computer-generated FX animation.
  2. Create elements, effects, pipelines, tools, and techniques that reflect the physical dynamics of natural phenomena (e.g., fire, smoke, water, bubbles, lava, dust, etc.) to create a believable world for the story.
  3. Be accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets to ensure show/client deadlines are met.
  4. Develop solutions and techniques that meet art/technical direction.
  5. Participate in dailies, rounds, and team reviews of work in progress.
  6. Interact with production, supervisors, and team/peers to problem-solve and share information related to show/assigned tasks.
  7. Decipher and follow through on shot turnovers, dailies, briefings/notes, and feedback.
  8. Work efficiently as part of a team or independently to determine various design solutions.

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to create multiple types of digital effects from simple to moderately difficult.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of Houdini and techniques used to create stunning effects.
  3. General knowledge of VEX, shading, lighting, and rendering.
  4. Attention to detail and a strong eye for behavior and movement relating to physical simulation in computer graphics.
  5. Working knowledge of Linux-based operating systems.
  6. Experience working on feature films or equivalent experience, comfortable working within an FX pipeline.
  7. Familiarity with Katana, Nuke, and Python is a plus.

Salary Information:

  1. The anticipated base salary for an Associate position is $29.09 to $39.98/hr.
  2. For an Intermediate position, the salary is $37.50 - $53.80/hr.
  3. Benefits are per company policy, which includes healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSP's, Sick and Vacation leave, and standard increases as applicable.
  4. The actual base salary offered will depend on various factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and, if applicable, the location of the position.
