Job description

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division is accepting applications for the following:

Position: Full-TimeEducational Assistant III Therapy Aide

Location: Hinton, Jasper and Grande Cache Zones

Start Date : February 10, 2025 until June 27, 2025

Hours of work: 30 hours per week (6 hours per day, Monday to Friday, inclusive, 10 months)

The competition will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

REPORTS TO : Works under the direction and supervision of the Director of Inclusive Learning and Behaviour Support Specialist.

DUTIES:

The duties of this position are not limited to the listed components, but will encompass 80% of the assigned duties on a regular basis.

  • Work with Behaviour Support Specialist to support programming and implementation of individual behavioural, emotional and developmental challenges.
  • Provide student support in relation to implementation of specialized programming in the areas of behavioural strategies, skill building techniques, speech, language, fine and gross motor development.
  • Provides direct educational support to students in a one to one, small group or classroom setting.
  • Use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate behaviours.
  • Document and report behavioural observations and progress to the behavioural support specialist.
  • May assist with preparation of program related materials and resources.
  • Uses computers and other specialized equipment to provide support.
  • May monitor class and/or students in accordance with Board and professional guidelines.
  • Supports students in the development of life-long learning, self-esteem, personal skills and interests.
  • Acts as an integral part of the IEP (Individual Education Plan) team, providing support to the student on identified objectives.
  • Acts as a liaison between students and relevant staff regarding student specific program needs and progress.
  • Performs other assigned duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The preferred candidate will possess, or be in the process of completing, a certificate or diploma in a relevant field, or a Teacher Aide certificate or diploma that includes coursework in Behaviour Support.

  • Completion of grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license as may be required to transport students.
  • Technology and computer related skills.
  • May require specialized training and/or experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed and flexible.
  • Patience and temperament to work with children on various developmental levels.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a team player.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties.
