Job Description:

Reporting to the Parking Services Manager, the Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for the enforcement of Municipal, Provincial by-laws and Algonquin College’s policies in regard to Parking. Under the supervision of the Manager, the incumbent performs the duties of a Parking Enforcement Officer daily and also acts as the contact for the removal of unauthorized vehicles from College property. The incumbent will assist other areas of Parking Services and its Department as required, in addition to training new and current Enforcement staff. The Officer is responsible for uploading clear and irrefutable data and information to the City of Ottawa system through handheld devices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enforces the College’s rules and regulations as well as municipal and Provincial by-laws regarding parking and traffic on property via the issuance of City of Ottawa parking infractions.

  • Patrol the parking lots, in the patrol vehicle or on foot, enter data, including photographs, and officer notes through handheld devices,

  • Attends Provincial Court and gives evidence regarding contested issues, Parking Infractions.

  • Schedule and oversee part-time staff during College events. Provides traffic control and information for special events or as needed. Plans and coordinates all signage and barricades required for all events on college property;

  • Will gather all pertinent information related to signs and line painting for the Ottawa and Perth campuses, and will liaise with the approved contractor to have them updated as required;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years Diploma or equivalent in Police Foundations/Law and Security Administration;

  • Minimum two (2) years' experience a parking enforcement environment;

  • CADRE number (asset);

  • Post-secondary institution work experience (asset);

  • Driver's license in good standing (required);

  • Ability to pass a Police background check (required);

  • Ability to receive training from the city of Ottawa;

  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service;

  • Ability to multitask is a must;

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure;

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;

  • Strong problem-solving skills;

  • Must be able to lift and move barricades around.

*Anticipated Schedule: Wednesday to Friday from 2:15PM-9:00PM and Saturday to Sunday from 8:00AM to 4:00PM
