Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Conventional Lathe Machinist (manual lathe machinist) with machining experience. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys working with their hands, is self-motivated, attentive to detail, and takes pride in their work.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Interpret engineering drawings and procedures to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  2. Perform preventative maintenance on machines and troubleshoot production drawings.
  3. Communicate with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality, and other shop personnel to assign tasks, resolve machining or quality issues, and identify areas for improvement.
  4. Adhere to all provincial and federal laws, company quality standards and procedures, policies, and safety and environmental regulations within the scope of the job.
  5. Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, Vernier calipers, height gauges, or other specialized measuring instruments.
  6. Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to the supervisor.
  7. Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports.
  8. Lifting requirements: Up to 50 lbs.
  9. Mathematical skills: Advanced math, including geometry and trigonometry.
Education and Experience:
  1. Graduate from a technical school or equivalent.
  2. Minimum 5 years of Canadian conventional lathe experience.
  3. Understanding of metallurgy and materials and their applications.
  4. Ability to select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on the machine.
  5. Competitive wage: $25-$40 per hour.
  6. Benefits include 2 weeks’ vacation pay, holiday pay, and extended medical/dental coverage upon successful completion of probation.

Standard shift: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
