Full-Time Temporary Mandarin Host - OMNI News

Who we're looking for:

Are you in tune with the stories that matter to the Chinese community in B.C. and Canada? Are you fluent in written and spoken Mandarin? Are you a passionate storyteller keen on connecting with the community to tell these stories? If so, you may be the right person for us.

OMNI News is seeking a Host to join our OMNI News Mandarin team in Vancouver. It’s a six-month contract position.

What you'll do:

  1. Host the daily Mandarin newscast.
  2. Pitch, chase, write, research and present compelling stories and segments on-air with an emphasis on content for the Chinese community.
  3. Monitor all news sources and be on top of breaking news and developing situations.
  4. Assist in breaking news coverage.
  5. Be willing to work multiple shifts including evenings and weekends, if needed.
  6. Represent OMNI News in various community events.

What you'll bring:

  1. Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin.
  2. Familiarity with the culture, needs, and sensibilities of the Chinese community in B.C.
  3. Knowledge of B.C. and Canadian news and how it impacts Chinese communities in the Greater Vancouver Area.
  4. Ability to take direction well and willing to adapt to rapidly changing technology and breaking news.
  5. Experience in news with strong news judgment, good writing skills, knowledge of current events, and excellent communication and people skills.
  6. Self-starter with a can-do, solution-oriented attitude.
  7. Degree or Diploma in Broadcast Journalism or related field and/or equivalent experience an asset.

To protect our people, brand and assets, a pre-employment background check will be conducted. As part of our selection process, all candidates must clear a criminal background check. Additionally, a credit check and drivers abstract may be required depending on the role.
