Job description

We are looking for an amazing Full-time Licensed Optician to join our wonderful team in Alberta.

As a Bailey Nelson Licensed Optician, you'll play a crucial role with our store teams to deliver the best possible optical experience to your customers every day.

As a Licensed Optician, you will be responsible for providing exceptional eyewear solutions to customers based on their prescription, preferences, and lifestyle. This role involves interpreting prescriptions, assisting with frame and lens selection, and ensuring the proper fit of eyeglasses. Additionally, you may be involved in educating customers about lens options, maintaining accurate records, and managing inventory. You’ll have the opportunity to hit some exciting goals along the way and build a career with a growing brand that is evolving the eyecare industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Journey/ Experience:

  1. Educate customers about various lens options, coatings, and enhancements.
  2. Provide instructions on proper eyewear care and maintenance.
  3. Assist customers in choosing frames that complement their facial features, style, and prescription requirements.
  4. Provide recommendations on lens materials, coatings, and treatments.
  5. Verify insurance coverage and process claims for eligible eyewear purchases.
  6. Communicate with insurance providers to resolve any issues related to coverage.
  7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records, including prescription information and purchase history.

Store Operations:

  1. Open and close the store, maintaining organization, merchandising, and cleanliness, taking accountability for presentation.
  2. Assist in reconciling third-party payments and execute actions from newsletters.
  3. Collaborate as a team player with the retail team and optometrist.
  4. Drive performance by understanding and working towards in-store targets and KPIs.

Optical process & compliance:

  1. Interpret and analyze prescriptions written by optometrists or ophthalmologists.
  2. Advise customers on the most suitable lens options based on their visual needs.
  3. Take accurate measurements of customers' facial features to ensure proper frame fitting.
  4. Adjust frames to achieve optimal comfort and vision for customers.
  5. Place orders for eyeglasses and contact lenses, ensuring accurate prescription details.
  6. Stay informed about Provincial regulations and ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
  7. Attend continuing education courses to stay current on industry trends and advancements.
  8. Support remote testing operations for customers & online doctor.

Training & Development:

  1. Participate in team training and development events for personal and professional growth.
  2. Ensure optical skills & knowledge development by completing the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced optical skills programs.

Product:

  1. Possess solid product knowledge, including frames, accessories, contact lenses, and lens types.
  2. Support store inventory counts and maintain organized backstock.
  3. Follow planograms for proper store merchandising and stay updated on new product launches.
  4. Provide product feedback to the store manager.
Skills, Attributes and Experience Required:
  1. You have your Opticians License in the province of employment and you are in good standing with the governing college.
  2. You have at least 2 years experience in an optical store or lab with optical dispensing experience.
  3. You have exceptional knowledge of current optical theory, practices and application of knowledge.
  4. You maintain current knowledge of lens technologies and general optometry industry information.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Detail-oriented with the ability to perform accurate measurements.
  7. Proficient in using optical equipment and computer systems.
  8. You embrace individuality by being honest and helping people find their look.
  9. You are always brimming with enthusiasm and positive energy.
  10. You are a strong team player and have a “unite the business” approach to all given tasks.
