Job summary

Paladin Security is seeking a Full-Time Security Guard for Guysborough Memorial Hospital in Guysborough, NS (10560 NS-16). This 24-hour post requires 4-day on/off shifts with 0700–1900 and 1900–0700 rotations.

The role focuses on safety, access control, and patient/staff support.

Qualifications

• Must obtain Security License for Nova Scotia.
• Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C.
• English fluency (oral and written).
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Certified in Use of Force (UOF) and MOAB.
• UOF/MOAB training can be provided by Paladin at no cost with a 6‑month commitment.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital grounds to ensure safety and security of the site.
• Monitor surveillance systems and report suspicious activity.
• Control entry points; verify authorized access to restricted areas.
• Respond quickly to emergencies and assist staff during crises.
• Provide customer service by greeting and assisting visitors and staff.
• De‑escalate conflicts and handle interactions professionally.
• Document incidents and write accurate reports on daily activities.
• Collaborate with hospital staff and local law enforcement for coordinated security.
• Enforce hospital policies and patient/visitor protocols.
• Perform patient watch duties as needed and report concerns.

Position Details

Position: Full-Time Security Guard

Site: Guysborough Memorial Hospital

Location: 10560 NS-16, Guysborough NS B0H 1N0

Hours: 4-day on 4-day off; Rotational Shifts - 0700-1900/1900-0700

Payrate: $20.50

Key Responsibilities

• Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises to ensure the safety and security of the site.
• Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
• Access Control : Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
• Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
• Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff, ensuring that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
• Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
• Collaboration with Hospital Staff : Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
• Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards.
• Perform patient watch duties as needed, including continuous observation to ensure safety and prevent harm. Monitor and report concerns, follow clinical direction, and document accurately.

Prerequisites

• Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia
• Valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
