National Diabetes Trust is seeking a Charitable Donations Pickup Driver to support our nationwide donation program. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will drive a 3-Ton straight truck on established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from homes and bins, delivering to our partners and storage facilities.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license (Full Class 5 or higher).
• 5+ years of driving experience; 2 years with professional commercial training.
• Clean driving abstract, within 21 days prior to hire.
• Ability to read maps and map routes for efficient pickups.
• Strong customer service and public interaction skills.

Responsibilities

• Drive a 40-hour work week on established donation routes.
• Collect donated clothing and household items from homes and bins.
• Deliver items to corporate partners and storage facilities.
• Complete daily paperwork and hours‑of‑service logs.
• Perform pre/post trip inspections and ensure vehicle compliance.
• Check in with dispatch at start, midday, and end of route.
• Return all equipment to the office daily and report discrepancies.

About The Charitable Donations Pickup Driver Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this critical role will work a 40‑hour work week, driving established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from our valued customers’ homes and our designated charity donations bins – and deliver these items to our Corporate Partners and storage facilities.

Highlights Of The Role Include

• To understand and promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the general public and to all volunteers
• Has a thorough knowledge of the organization goals and objectives, services, programs, and organizational structure at all levels
• Always operate vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and in a safe and responsible manner
• Conduct ‘pre’ and ‘post’ trip inspections
• Complete and submit the appropriate paperwork daily
• Complete the Hours‑of‑Service Logs and associated paperwork and submit daily
• Always carry, proof of valid driver’s license, valid plate permit registration, a copy of the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration/National Safety Code Registration documentation and the associated vehicle inspection and Hours of Service documentation
• Check in with dispatch at beginning, mid‑day, and end of scheduled route
• Provide an appropriate message card to each donor
• Complete and properly log all assigned pick ups
• Unload merchandise as instructed
• Return all equipment to the office at the end of each day
• Report route discrepancies with the dispatch
• Ensure that only authorized personnel ride inside the truck
• Participate in all required driving related NDT education, initiatives, directives, and procedures
• Additional duties as required ensuring the effective function of Operations

About You

• Grade 12 Education or equivalent experience
• Ability to read maps
• Ability to handle 10-50 lbs. loads
• Ability to drive a 3‑Ton (16 foot) straight truck
• Strong organizational skills, ability to map routes for efficient pickup
• Ability to project a positive business‑like image to the public
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
• Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clientsAbility to maintain public relations type attitude even during stressful situations
• Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions
• Good command of the English language
• Superior customer service skills
• Must have Full Class 5 and / or G license or higher, passenger car or light truck
• Must have a minimum of 5 years actual driving experience at the above level. 2 years if the driver has received professional commercial vehicle training
• Must have a clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last 3 years
