Job summary

S&R Seniors Living in Waterloo region is seeking a Cook to provide nourishing meals in a warm, resident-centered kitchen. This role offers reasonable hours with evenings free, supporting work-life balance while making a positive impact on seniors.

You will prepare meals from scratch, adapt to dietary needs, maintain safety standards, and help with events. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and compassionate service in our community homes.

Qualifications

• Certification in the Food Safety Awareness Course with recertification every 5 years.
• Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) check completed within the past 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Prepared nutritious meals from scratch for Residents.
• Cooked in batches across stations to serve on time.
• Followed dietary needs and standardized recipes.
• Maintained clean, safe, sanitary kitchen practices.
• Checked food temperatures per policies and MOH.
• Operated and cleaned kitchen equipment properly.
• Supported events like holidays and barbecues.
• Collaborated with the team to assist as needed.

Job Description

At our Seniors Living homes, we pride ourselves on creating a warm and welcoming culinary atmosphere with fantastic food. This cook position offers reasonable operating hours you don't often find in the restaurant industry, you can have your evenings to yourself! Help support some of the most vulnerable people in your community in a job that gives great work-life balance. If you were working for us as a Cook, here are some of the things you would have done last week:

• Prepared delicious, nutritious meals from scratch that brought comfort and enjoyment to Residents
• Cooked in batches and managed multiple stations to ensure meals were served on time and at the right temperature
• Created meals that followed Residents’ dietary needs and texture modifications, always using standardized recipes and safe practices
• Ensured the kitchen was kept clean, safe, and sanitary by practicing strong food safety habits, from handwashing to routine cleaning and sanitizing
• Checked and recorded food temperatures to ensure compliance with policies, Public Health regulations, and MOH guidelines
• Safely operated, cleaned, and maintained kitchen equipment to keep everything in excellent working order
• Contributed to special events like holiday dinners or summer barbecues that brought Residents and families together
• And supported your team as needed.
