Job summary

Safe Harbours Family Treatment Homes is seeking a dedicated youth support worker to provide day‑to‑day care and supervision for at‑risk youth in Hamilton and surrounding areas. You will build trust to help youths develop coping skills while working with foster parents and clinical staff on each child’s care plan.

You will lead life skills and recreational activities, stepping in during crises with calm, patient guidance and supporting school and personal goals as a consistent, positive role

Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Child and Youth Work or equivalent required/advantageous.
• Direct experience with at‑risk youth or children in care.
• First Aid certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day care and supervision to keep kids safe and steady.
• Build trust to help a young person develop coping skills, not just follow rules.
• Collaborate with foster parents and clinical team on each child’s care plan.
• Run life skills and recreational activities to give kids something to look forward to.
• Step in during a crisis with de‑escalation techniques (where needed).
• Support school and personal goals as a consistent adult in a young person’s life.

• Comfort managing difficult behaviour with patience, not frustration
• Ability to commute to Hamilton, Grimsby, or Stoney Creek
• First Aid certification is a plus, not required
• Willingness to complete a child welfare background check and a vulnerable sector police check, both required by Ontario Ministry regulations
