About The Position
This is a temporary, full time support staff position replacing a bargaining unit employee. This position will start as soon as possible and end March 31, 2026 - working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $42.56.
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Application & Infrastructure Services, the incumbent is responsible for designing, developing, and securing the College’s internal and external web applications and services.
The incumbent is expected to create and review system specifications, implement and test web security measures, identify and resolve web performance issues, collect and prioritize new requirements, advise and support managers and clients, update and maintain the content management system, train and assist users, assess and integrate external web APIs, plan and execute web software projects, document and maintain technical information and code and debug complex web-based applications.
The incumbent works in close cooperation and collaboration with the College’s Marketing department to provide updates/improvements to existing websites and to create new websites and related applications as requested and approved by the College stakeholders.
The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring that all Lambton College websites comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
Specific Accountabilities
Web Services Development, Support and Responsibilities:
- Identify and recommend new web features and applications in conjunction with content creators and the Marketing team. Make suggestions for future developments, functionality, or policies.
- Collaborates with the Marketing Department to ensure the all websites meet the overall strategic priorities of the college and editing a professional visual presentation which will draw potential students and clients to Lambton College’s websites.
- Investigates, advises, plans, provides creative advice, writes, edits and coordinates the creation and ongoing development of website content and navigation for the purpose of ensuring enrollment targets and student satisfaction. Coordinates web tasks for team members, contract employees, students and part-time staff and ensures completion of those tasks. Provides technical, procedural, scheduling and other relevant direction to the project team so the website is kept up-to-date and relevant.
- Responsible for timeliness and accuracy of website updates, communication and presentation to clients, as well as researching, initiating and leading ongoing improvements
- Initiates collaboration with departments and system users for website updates, testing, and software integration through API’s or other software developments.
- Responsible for ensuring the websites follow the college branding.
- Ensures all designs are AODA compliant to the latest governing policies
- Develop and maintain in conjunction with College stakeholders, a consistent website structure across all College web applications.
- Ensure that website integration into College systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
- Meet with end users to define requirements and systems goals and identify and resolve website/content-related issues.
- Write, code, test, and debug software programs and applications including researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications.
- Independently design, develop, test, automate, debug and document complex web applications and scripts. Build web services both by creating new APIs and working with existing published APIs provided by internal and external systems. (e.g. Sitefinity, Salesforce, GA4)
- Review and analyze existing websites’ effectiveness and efficiency and develop and implement improvement strategies.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with existing web pages, applications, and sites.
- Coaching and training of faculty and staff to use standard tools in the development of web pages.
- Liaise with other members of the IT staff and website users to assist in resolving problems with the College’s website infrastructure.
- Liaise with application software suppliers for prompt resolution of any problems or emergencies.
Security Management
- Review, update and test code for known security vulnerabilities
- Provide training to other IT staff and website users on the secure way to build webpages.
- Work with IT staff to sanitize all data before entry into college systems. This includes preventing malicious scripts or commands from being entered.
- Stay up to date on security and industry standards for website management and maintenance.
- Review and resolve any security-related incidents. This includes a review of internal/external penetration tests as well as monitoring security alerts through third-party resources.
CMS Administration
- Full management of the College Content Management Systems including analytics tools.
- Provide end-user access and management to content creators, external contractors, and other users. This will include any training on access or content development processes.
- Proactive and reactive troubleshooting, maintenance, and patching
- Planning and coordinating version upgrades with the Applications Team, Marketing, college stakeholders, and external vendors/contractors.
Qualifications
- Three (3) year post secondary Diploma/Degree in Computer Programming/Analyst, Internet Application Developer
- Minimum 3 years experience developing websites or web services.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a programming environment using a variety of programming languages with a strong understanding of C#, .Net, JavaScript, and Microsoft Visual Studio.
- Minimum 3 years experience managing a 3rd party CMS application.
- Minimum 3 years writing and editing content for websites
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- High degree of initiative; ability to think analytically.
