As a Web Software Engineer with Maxis, you will build web application powered dynamic in-game content and provide tools for administration and community management.
You will work with an experienced team that has collectively built Maxis games for more than two decades. You will work with multiple artists, designers, producers, and both client and backend engineers, prototyping and shipping features that enable richer, more dynamic content for new Maxis titles and that help the next generation of content creation, administration, and community management tools for many EA games. You will report to a Development Director and the bulk of your work will be done in TypeScript using the Angular framework.
As a Web Application Software Engineer at Maxis, you will
- Develop responsive and performant user interfaces built on the latest web tech that will be seen by, or support content for, millions of players
- Work with artists and designers to build components and styles consistent with the game’s look and feel and that are suitable for console, desktop, and mobile devices
- Build software that supports customer experience teams for multiple games, enabling administration and community management features, including moderation for a large volume of user-generated content
- Define coding conventions, project structures, and build processes for web tech projects
- Select technologies and tooling that are up to date with the latest developments in web tech and that support clean, performant code
- Integrate with both internal and external backend services, iterating collaboratively with backend engineers
- Author and review technical design documents and specifications detailing software requirements
- Maintain a suite of automated tests that validate the correctness of both logic and presentation code
Qualifications

- Demonstrated technical abilities with projects implemented in or experience with Kotlin, Java, React and TypeScript
- Bachelor/Master’s degree in Computer Science or at least 5+ years of experience in a hands-on development role
- You have experience monitoring web application UX and optimizing web application performance
- Demonstrate past experiences of shipping one or more titles for some platform (PC, Mac, Console, or Mobile)
- Experience building large systems and features from design to deployment, including live support
- Authored and reviewed technical design documents and specifications detailing software requirements
- Experience communicating updates and resolutions to technical and non-technical partners.
Compensation And Benefits
The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).
PAY RANGES
- British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) * $115,100 - $161,200 CAD
In British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
