Job summary

Canadian Pacific Railway (CPKC) seeks a Software Developer to design, develop, and support enterprise applications that improve performance, connectivity, and safety across North America. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions using .NET, C#, REST APIs, and cloud-native architectures while embracing DevOps practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a computer-related field.
  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and integrating with systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, implement, and support enterprise applications and services using .NET, C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API, and related technologies.
  • Build, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services, and database solutions with attention to security and performance.
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, and stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Support modernization and cloud/native transformations with API-driven implementations.
  • Participate in full SDLC including design, integration, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Contribute to DevOps and CI/CD practices using GitHub, Azure DevOps, TeamCity, SonarQube, and Checkmarx.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Developer plays a key role in advancing CPKC's digital transformation by designing, developing, and supporting innovative enterprise applications that enhance business performance, connectivity, and operational efficiency across the North American network. This position collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and modern technology solutions, drive application modernization initiatives, and leverage cloud, API, and DevOps technologies to enable reliable, high-performing systems that support CPKC's commitment to safety, service, and continuous improvement.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Design, develop, test, implement, and support enterprise applications and services using .NET, C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API, and related technologies to deliver reliable and scalable business solutions
  • Build, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services, and database solutions while ensuring application security, performance, and adherence to established development standards and best practices
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, and stakeholders to gather requirements, develop technical designs, and deliver innovative solutions that align with business objectives and operational needs
  • Support application modernization and digital transformation initiatives by enhancing existing platforms and migrating legacy systems to modern cloud-native, API-driven, and enterprise technology solutions
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including solution design, system integration, troubleshooting, performance optimization, testing, deployment, and production support to ensure operational excellence
  • Contribute to DevOps and continuous improvement practices by supporting Continuous Delivery or Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, maintaining technical documentation, and leveraging tools such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, TeamCity, SonarQube, and Checkmarx to improve delivery quality and efficiency.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or a combination of education and demonstrated experience equivalent to a university degree
  • Experience developing and consumingREST APIsand integrating with internal and external systems
  • Experience with Reactis preferred
  • Experience with source control and Continuous Delivery or Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools such as GitHub, Git, TeamCity, Azure DevOps, or similar
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and clean coding practices
  • Experience with relational databases and Structured Query Language (SQL) development
  • Familiarity with authentication, authorization, secure coding, and application security best practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot application issues across code, database, integration, and deployment layers.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
