Job summary

eBay’s Research Technology team seeks a Full Stack Engineer – Data & AI (SE3) for a backend‑focused full‑stack role with data engineering, AI/ML, and cloud‑native development. You will own features end to end across Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, and NoSQL databases, using Docker and Kubernetes.

This role emphasizes backend systems, data‑intensive apps, and applied AI, collaborating with research, data science, product, design, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable tools

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production applications or services.
• Strong hands-on programming in Python and Java, plus JavaScript/TypeScript for backend services and web experiences.
• Strong SQL and relational database fundamentals; experience with NoSQL and embedded databases.
• Experience building data-intensive systems and data pipelines.
• Experience with AI/ML-enabled applications, RESTful APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability.
• Ability to work in ambiguous problem spaces and communicate with technical and non-technical partners.

Responsibilities

• Build backend-heavy full‑stack applications, APIs, dashboards, and internal tools.
• Design and operate production services and data layers for internal apps and workflows.
• Apply machine learning and AI techniques in production and integrate models into workflows.
• Improve cloud-native systems with Docker and Kubernetes, focusing on reliability and observability.
• Evolve codebases and architectures while maintaining critical workflows.
• Collaborate with research, data science, product, design, and engineering teams to shape requirements.
