Job Description

We are looking for a Full Stack Python Web Developer to work as part of a small team in managing and improving a production application built on Django.

The successful candidate will combine their existing knowledge of Python and Django with good problem-solving skills and the initiative to take on new challenges. They will join an existing team supporting the production codebase as well as create new features in response to new and existing client needs.

The application is currently used in the administration of employee benefit programs within the Canadian marketplace.

This position is offered as a remote role for those that reside and are legally eligible to work in Canada, with a preference to those in the greater Vancouver region. We offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits plan.

Responsibilities
  • Write reusable, testable, and efficient code, often in direct response to user generated requirements and needs
  • Work with other team members and customers to understand and define requirements
  • Build new features and add capabilities within the scope of a production application
  • Add, refine, test and debug user interfaces as required
  • Use third-party Python libraries when required
  • Support the maintenance and evolution of existing applications
  • Collaborate with the development team and company on processes, features and recommendations
Skills and Qualifications
  • Significant full stack development experience, 2-5 years+ of Python and Django, or 5+ years of Python with a similar MVC framework
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English with end users, particularly in relation to translating business needs into functional system outcomes
  • A solid understanding of PostgreSQL databases; with prior experience in a bi-temporal database architecture environment in particular a definite asset
  • Experience with Git workflow; proficient understanding of code versioning tools
  • Able to create database schemas that represent and support business processes
  • Strong unit test and debugging skills
  • Familiarity with messaging and queuing tools such as Celery
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Background or prior work experience with employee group benefits or the insurance industry in general is an asset
  • A viewable git profile, or similar examples of prior work and/or contributions to open source projects is an asset
  • Experience with front end web application design including frameworks such as Bootstrap is a definite asset
