Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following :
- To take medication history and gather patient information for pharmacist to review, always exercising professional judgement to recognize when the clinical expertise of the pharmacist is required.
- To prepare and process prescriptions (including compounds) which are deemed appropriate for the patient by supervising pharmacist, and perform final check on filled prescriptions prior to release, recognizing and responding to unusual patient patterns of drug distribution.
- To transfer to and receive prescriptions from prescribers, and other pharmacists / pharmacy technicians, and receive verbal prescriptions from prescribers.
- To assist patients to make informed decisions regarding the selection and use of drug administration devices, monitoring devices and health aids.
- Toassist patients and health care team members in understanding the scope, limitations and exceptions to third-party insurance coverage including coordination of benefits.
- To supervise and perform final check on the work of pharmacy assistants and / or other pharmacy technicians, accepting responsibility for their work.
- To assist patients with the pickup, delivery, and sale of their prescriptions and OTC / HBC purchases.
- To ensure confidentiality of patient information and request and release such information only where appropriate and legally allowed.
- To be aware of and abide by government regulations and Saskatoon Co-op's policies in regard to pharmacy inventory control, safekeeping, and sales, including proper ordering, return and / or disposal of pharmacy inventory.
- To participate in quality improvement initiatives, including documentation of med errors and near misses.
- To assist in the promotion and administration of professional service programs offered by the pharmacy, including triage, communication of available services, and booking appointments.
- To be familiar with all products and services offered in Saskatoon Co-op Pharmacy, including those that are new, and awareness of products and services normally offered in the local community pharmacy sector.
- To assist with checking and adjusting customer complaints within the established policies of the Saskatoon Co-op, deferring to immediate supervisor as required.
- To be aware of and informed about Saskatoon Co-op contracts, policies, procedures, and practices.
- To assist, if required, his / her immediate superior in preparing reports, compiling statistics, processing invoices.
- To be familiar with and assist with current merchandising and signing policies, procedures, and practices.
- To provide prompt, courteous, friendly pharmacy care to customers in order to promote good patient relations.
- When appropriate, to promote the sale of Co-op label merchandise.
- To be responsible for general housekeeping duties, and the general appearance of the entire department when not occupied with prescription-related activities.
- To maintain a constant alert against unauthorized removal of merchandise and assist in the safekeeping of all cash handled in the department.
- To assist the Pharmacist, when required, in the preparation and administration of injections.
- To perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently licenced with SCPP.
- Strongly service-oriented and motivated, and capable of serving, and assisting customers in a courteous, efficient and professional manner.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and multi-task.
- Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience.
- Must be available mornings and afternoon.
- a combination of relevant education and experiencemaybe considered.
