Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods is seeking an FSQA Manager to lead the food safety and quality assurance programs at our Manitoba facility. You will drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced plant environment and build strong relationships with regulatory bodies.

You will lead the FSQA team, oversee audits, implement data-driven improvements, and champion a strong FS culture within the facility. A university/ college degree and 5+ years of leadership in food manufacturing are required.

Qualifications

  • University/college degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading a high performing team in a food manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to leverage exceptional interpersonal communication to develop productive internal and external relationships.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders to achieve desired results.
  • Energetic and positive leadership style.
  • Excellent observation and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective execution of FSQA programs to meet corporate and customer food safety strategy & quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead internal and external audits (e.g., BRC, CFIA, customers, etc.).
  • Using fact-based analysis, provide recommendations to improve facility quality systems.
  • Lead, coach and develop QA team.
  • Drive the organization’s FS culture with facility leadership.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements within the facility and department.
  • Accountable for hold and release activities related to pathogens tests and non-conformances.
  • Ensure timely resolution of corrective actions from audits or CFIA concerns.
  • Lead facility FS during product launches using PDP FS risk assessments.
  • Build relationships with CFIA and external organizations.
  • Support change management for processes, programs, or systems.
  • Lead facility activities during product recalls.
  • Participate in facility leadership meetings.

The Opportunity

As the leader of the FSQA team, the FSQA Manager is accountable for the execution of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs at the facility. The Manager is a key member of the facility management team and is responsible for driving continuous improvement in a faced paced and demanding environment. Additionally, the Manager will establish and maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies.

Excellent temporary growth opportunity to hone existing skills, learn new skills/processes and lead a fantastic FSQA team in a manufacturing (Plant) setting.

Snapshot Of a Day-in-the-Life
  • Ensure effective execution of all FSQA programs to meet corporate and customer food safety strategy & quality standards as well as all regulatory requirements (CFIA, Health Canada, USDA, FDA, etc.).
  • Lead internal and external audits (BRC, customers, CFIA, etc.).
  • Using fact-based analysis, provide recommendations to improve the facility quality systems.
  • Lead, coach and develop QA team.
  • In conjunction with facility leadership, drive the organizations FS culture.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements within the facility and the department.
  • Accountable for hold and release activities related to pathogens test programs, non-conformance situations, etc.
  • Ensure timely resolution of necessary corrective action items associated with all audits or CFIA concerns.
  • Facility FS lead during product launches utilizing product development process (PDP) FS risk assessment.
  • Build and advance relationships with CFIA and other external organizations.

  • Actively participate in facility leadership meetings.
