Job description

Reports to : The Director-Reaching Home and Urban Inuit Division in the President’s Department.

Responsibilities :

The successful candidates will be covering either :

  • Section 2, which is to be at Milton / Du Parc area, Place des Arts area and Metro Mont-Royal, Place des Arts, McGill, Place d’Armes;

AND / OR

  • Section 3, which is to be at Cabot Square area, Atwater / St Jacques area and Metro Atwater, Guy, Lionel Groulx, DeL’Eglise;
  • With a working schedule of 12h00 to 20h00 Saturday and Sundays.
  • Be present to assist members of the community coming South if they need support to find lodging, health services, beneficiary cards etc.;
  • Inform members of the community on the Urban realities, such as dangers of circulating in the city, providing Pedestrian and Crime safety tips;
  • For homeless members of the community, offer services and start the path towards using emergency shelters and transition to transitional housing;
  • Defuse conflict situations, if possible and / or collaborate with authorities and partners;
  • For Inuit experiencing homelessness, facilitate relationships with Resource Organizations (PAQ, Open Door, Chez Doris, etc.);
  • After 20h00, assist community members in metro stations, in finding a shelter for the night if they need one. (stations mentioned above);
  • Assist community members who want to go back to Nunavik, working with partners North and South to establish a plan;
  • Be available and willing to circulate in different neighborhoods of the city;
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications :

  • Experience in Social Intervention, is an asset;
  • Good communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages : Inuktitut, English and / or French;
  • Have good knowledge of the realities, needs, and assets of the urban Inuit community in Montreal, or a strong willingness to learn about it;
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, have a team spirit and openness to collaboration, and contribute to a positive and healthy work environment;
  • Motivated, and be passionate about improving the quality of life of urban Inuit;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement and excellent work and moral ethic;
  • Ability to work outside standard office hours;
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and urgent requests;
  • Knowledge of urban Inuit priorities and understanding of the homelessness situation in Montreal;
  • High level of integrity, autonomy, and accountability;
  • High level of understanding of self-care;
  • Security clearance is required.
