Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive experience in front-end engineering, with at least 5 years in an architecture leadership or principal engineer role.
• Proven track record defining front-end architecture for large-scale, enterprise-grade applications (50,000+ users).
• Building and scaling design systems across multiple business units or product lines.
• Experience in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, government) strongly preferred.
• Distributed teams across time zones, including offshore delivery partners.
• Expert proficiency in React (v18+), TypeScript, and modern JavaScript (ES2022+).
• Familiarity with Vue or Angular is a plus.
• Deep understanding of micro-frontend architectures (Module Federation, single-spa), SSR/SSG (Next.js) and CSR optimization.
• Strong knowledge of web platform fundamentals, CSS architecture, and state management (Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query).
• Security-first mindset with CSP, CORS, OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, and OWASP front-end risks.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and OpenShift.

The Role

The Front-end Software Engineering Lead & Manager is a senior management level position that also requires hands‑on engineering, responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology Team. The overall objective of this role is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple teams of professionals to accomplish established goals and conduct personnel duties for team (e.g. performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions)
• Provide strategic influence and exercise control over resources, budget management and planning while monitoring end results
• Utilize in-depth knowledge of concepts and procedures within own area and basic knowledge of other areas to resolve issues
• Ensure essential procedures are followed and contribute to defining standards
• Integrate in-depth knowledge of applications development with overall technology function to achieve established goals
• Provide evaluative judgement based on analysis of facts in complicated, unique, and dynamic situations including drawing from internal and external sources
• Influence and negotiate with senior leaders across functions, as well as communicate with external parties as necessary
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
• Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority across large, matrixed organizations.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to present technical concepts to C-suite and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills with a bias toward pragmatic, outcome-driven solutions.
• Experience driving organizational change through architecture governance, RFC processes, and technical standards bodies.
• Track record of attracting, developing, and retaining senior engineering talent.

• Strong command of web platform fundamentals: browser rendering pipeline, Web APIs, CSS architecture (CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS, Tailwind), SVG/Canvas.
• Proficiency in state management patterns (Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query) and GraphQL/REST API integration strategies.
• Hands‑on experience with design token systems, Figma token pipelines, and component library tooling (Storybook, Chromatic).
• Strong knowledge of front-end performance engineering: Lighthouse, Web Vitals, bundle analysis, lazy loading, and caching strategies.
• Familiarity with Node.js toolchains, monorepo management (Nx, Turborepo), and CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Harness).
• Security‑first mindset with working knowledge of CSP, CORS, OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, and OWASP front‑end security risks.
• Experience in Solution Architecture documentation and other architectural deliverables.
• Experience in building solutions end to end for a wide range of technologies – Java, Database, Cloud and, Web Technologies, etc.
• Experience in working in both waterfall and Agile methodologies.
• Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
• Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
• Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication.
• Experience within a banking/finance environment would be preferable.
• Methodology of AI includes Chunking, Embedding, AI Engineering, Prompt Engineering.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range: $145,100.00 - $217,700.00
