Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Supportive Housing Front Desk Worker will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment in the supportive housing program and responding to tenant inquiries and complaints in accordance with the program plan, contractual agreements, Salvation Army standards, best practices and identified tenant needs. They will report directly to the Program Supervisor.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Basic Functions/Responsibilities

  • Acts as the main point of contact for all tenants
  • Handles inquiries and complaints from tenants.
  • Conducts wellness checks where required.
  • Consistently demonstrates respect and empathy for all guests.
  • Maintains availability for personal, practical, and moral support.
  • Answers the program department telephone and records/remits messages.
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings.
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed, provides referrals for tenants where required.
  • Ensures ongoing monitoring of policies.
  • Performs other assigned job-related duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Written and Verbal Communication

  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods.
  • Maintains logbooks and completes incident reports.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Governance Boards and Councils: None

Internal: tenants of supportive housing, staff, and volunteers

External: guests of supportive housing, community members and community groups/organizations.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Program Supervisor.
  • Direct reports for this position: N/A.
  • May show others how to perform certain procedures.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources.
  • The incumbent may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash.
  • The incumbent has no input into the annual budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a supportive housing facility which operates 24 hours per day
  • The incumbent might require to lift or move items up to 30 lb with no assistance from others.
  • The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Isolation o Monotony
    • Odors
    • Dealing with angry people
    • Verbal abuse
    • Work schedule affecting lifestyle o Exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste o Exposure to drugs and alcohol
  • The incumbent may have little to no travel required.
  • The incumbent carries a pager/walkie talkie and will work shifts.
  • The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illness due to:
  • Physical attacks by others.
  • Exposure to infections diseases.
  • Exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Sharp objects.
  • Other dangerous situations.

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, frequently interacting with tenants, attentive listening, and moderate attention when recording information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a 2-year Community College program will be a strong asset.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset.
  • Computer ability.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • The incumbent must have more up to one year of prior related experience, including experience with frontline work in a social service setting.

The salary range is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $23.64 to $24.02 with a maximum of $24.39.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
