ASUS is the student government representing arts and science undergraduate students at Queen’s University. We are looking for organized, reliable, and energetic students to help us promote the Society’s professionalism and act as a resource in our offices. Working out of the offices located at 183 University Avenue, the Front Desk Receptionist will report directly to the Vice President of Operations.

The ASUS Front Desk Receptionists are responsible for greeting and engaging with visitors to the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS) office at 183 University Avenue. Because the receptionist is the first visible contact point for many students, the position is integral in ensuring that the professional and welcoming image of the Society is impressed upon every student who enters the building. The receptionist will answer visitor questions, and direct visitors to the appropriate ASUS contact. They will also assist the ASUS Executive in ensuring that all accurate information is readily available to visitors, and with various major ASUS projects and events as they occur throughout the year.

Applications will be available until Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 11 : 59pm EST

8-month term from September 1st, 2025 to April 10th, 2026

Up to 8 students will be hired for up to 40hrs / week combined

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors into the ASUS offices.
  • Answer phones and attend to visitors at the front desk (answer general society questions).
  • Direct phone calls and visitors to the appropriate personnel or offices.
  • Check phone messages regularly as calls can be missed during the day.
  • Safely and accurately handle cash boxes when required.
  • Keep the front entrance and reception area neat, tidy and presentable at all times.
  • Ensure that necessary information is readily available to visitors.
  • Facilitate transactions for society activities and products with POS software.
  • Issue receipts on all purchases.
  • Assist in merchandising and inventorying online store products.
  • Receive, organize and sort into appropriate mailbox, all incoming mail, messages or applications.
  • Provide administrative assistance in preparing internal and external mailings or courier requests.
  • Maintain bulletin board and update advertisements on the monitor in the lobby.
  • Other related general administrative duties as required by the Executive or Council.

Qualifications

  • Must be an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts and Science
  • Must have received a work study entitlement
  • Must have knowledge and sound understanding of computer and phone skills / applications
  • Must be organized, responsible, and have a positive attitude
