Job Title : Part-time Friday Club Instructor

Position Overview :

Destination Exploration (DE) is seeking a part-time Friday Club Instructor ($17.00 / hour, 8-10 hours / week) for its FriYAY Clubs to begin September 18th, 2023. DE is the University of Lethbridge’s Youth STEM organization located in the Science Commons on campus with a mission to bring science and technology to life in a fun and educational manner. We are seeking a creative and motivated person to develop and run our FriYAY clubs for students grades 1-6, which run for 8 Friday afternoons from October 6 to December 1st (potential to extend until March 22, 2024). This will include developing creative and hands-on STEM lessons and implementing these with club participants, evaluation, and general administration work.

An individual in this position will gain experience in public speaking, classroom management, educational lesson planning, administration skills and valuable communication soft skills. DE programs work with a variety of technology used in K-12 education that you will be taught how to use effectively such as Spheros, Ozobots, Makey Makey, Micro : bit, TinkerCAD and 3D printing.

Main Duties :

  • Deliver 8 Friday afternoon Clubs between 1 : 30-4 : 30pm.
  • Work with other staff members to coordinate activities and engage all club members.
  • Maintain club space and program materials.
  • Assist students with activities as needed and encourage a safe, team atmosphere.
  • Ensure that all participants conduct themselves safely within a safe environment.
  • Conduct program evaluation.

Position Qualifications :

  • Current Standard First Aid (or proof of completion by Oct 6, 2023).
  • Satisfactory current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector).
  • Experience working with school-aged children.
  • A strong background or knowledge in a scientific or technology field.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • A high aptitude for technology would be an asset.
