Job description

The Elliott Community is seeking a Friendly Visitor to provide meaningful social interactions and decrease loneliness in residents’ daily lives.

Responsibilities
  • Sign in and out using the volunteer computer system
  • Provide companionship and social interaction to residents
  • Interact with the resident through conversation, reading, playing cards, etc.
  • Assist resident with small tasks such as opening mail, writing a letter or watering plants
  • Record who you visit and their level of interaction on the form provided by Recreationist

  • Orientation & Training: Facility tour and basic orientation will be provided for every volunteer, role-specific training will occur on your first day of volunteering with us, and ongoing on-the-job training will be provided as necessary
How to Apply
  • Fill out the Volunteer Application Form
  • Attend a brief interview with the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Apply for a vulnerable sector check from your local police station if you are 18 years of age or older – submit it to the Volunteer Coordinator when complete
  • Obtain a 2-step TB skin test (from the Public Health Unit or your family doctor)
  • Have 2 COVID vaccines as well as the annual flu shot
  • Complete mandatory online training
  • Attend orientation
  • Start volunteering!

Additional Requirements: 2 step TB test, Measles Vaccination records, Updated Flu shots. Proof of Covid Vaccination, Willing to undergo a background or police records check, Willing to complete medical forms.

The Elliott Community is located at 170 Metcalfe Street, Guelph, Ontario N1E 4Y3. This opportunity is suitable for Adults (Ages 18-54) and Older Adults (Ages 55+). Languages spoken: English, Italian.
