Qualifications

  • Completion of aquaculture training may be substituted with sufficient hands-on experience in spawning, egg incubation, and early rearing of salmon fry.
  • Previous experience with water quality testing would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring feed and oxygen.
  • Completing water quality tests.
  • Data collection and input.
  • Daily farm routines.
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment.
  • Assisting other aquaculture technicians in operation of fish hatcheries.
  • Brood stock production and handling, spawning, egg and fry production.
  • Feeding aquaculture stocks, vaccinating stocks, and performing culling.
  • Operating, maintaining, and cleaning pumps, filters, tanks, and other aquaculture equipment.
  • Keeping daily records of water chemistry and oxygen levels.
  • Grading and weighing aquaculture stocks.
  • Handling chemicals with necessary PPE.

Job description

Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd., a division of Cooke Aquaculture Inc., a dynamic and growing east coast family company, with Platinum Member status in Canada's Best Managed Companies Program, is offering a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the company's team as a Freshwater Aquaculture Technician for South Oromocto, NB.

The Role

Positions offer full-time, year-round employment.

Primary duties include:

  • Monitoring feed and oxygen
  • Completing water quality tests
  • Data collection and input
  • Daily farm routines
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment
  • Assisting other aquaculture technicians in the operation of fish hatcheries
  • Brood stock production and handling, spawning, egg, and fry production
  • Feeding aquaculture stocks, vaccinating stocks, and performing culling
  • Operating, maintaining, and cleaning pumps, filters, tanks, and other aquaculture equipment
  • Keeping daily records of water chemistry and oxygen levels
  • Grading and weighing aquaculture stocks
  • Handling chemicals with necessary PPE, including mandatory FIT testing (respirators)
The ideal candidate must be:
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to lift and carry brood fish
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to respond to alarms
  • Willing to work varied or irregular shifts, including weekends

The ideal candidate will have completed aquaculture training from a recognized educational institute. This requirement may be substituted with sufficient hands-on experience in spawning, egg incubation, and early rearing of salmon fry.

Previous experience with water quality testing would be considered an asset.
