Overview
Freight Forwarding Manager – Location: Lachine | Industry: Transport & Logistics. The Freight Forwarding Manager is responsible for the administration and efficient daily operation of the branch within the company and any applicable regulatory compliance requirements. They are accountable to ensure departmental budget performance, customer service and safety in accordance with the Company’s objectives. They must provide leadership, training and supervision to all staff as well as oversee and direct the growth of each department, including meeting and exceeding revenue and profit targets, business development and employee satisfaction and retention.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the Branch departments are meeting performance KPIs – productivity, quality, budgets, analyze and report on results and forecasts
- Set reasonable goals aligned with the company’s objectives with deadlines for completion and monitor compliance with these plans and achievement of such deadlines
- Prepare monthly reports, forecasts, results, and people resource planning, in line with company expectations
- Ensure that all departments have the right tools, information and knowledge to work effectively, serve our customers and uphold the company objectives and regulatory compliance
- Be available to all departments to help resolve conflicting objectives
- Reinforce continuously respectful communication between all departments
- Ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining quality service at all times
- Develop a working understanding of the company’s clients through telephone calls, meetings and industry events. Ensure that all reasonable client requests are met diligently
- Ensure that the Branch operates according to all Company and legislated requirements, with regard to Employment standards, Health and Safety, Human rights, Quality management and Accounting standards
- Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Provide a safe environment for all branch employees and take every necessary precaution or procedure to reduce the risk of accidents
- Responsible for signing cheque requisitions, transfer slips, purchase orders, etc
- Various other tasks as may be required
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5-7 years of industry related work experience, 5 years of which was in a managerial or supervisory role
- Direct working knowledge of operations, warehouse management, and transportation management
- Adequate knowledge of WHMIS and relevant provincial Health and Safety laws
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software products, including Excel and Word
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to speak clearly and confidently in all business settings
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven management and leadership abilities
- Sound decision making and judgement
- The ability to delegate, set expectations and monitor progress of all direct reports
- Motivate, inspire, provide and accept feedback to and from employees
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage and prioritize tasks
- Ability to develop, maintain and adapt action plans to achieve business targets
- Ability to remain objective in stressful situations
