Across Languages is a non-profit charitable agency dedicated to providing professional interpretation and translation services that reduce language barriers across Ontario since 1989. Our vision is to create an inclusive community where every language has a voice. We work hard to remove language barriers across 220 languages and dialects with certified translators and interpreters who have been tested and completed the most comprehensive community interpreter training program available in Canada.
Role Description
·Be an independent contractor with Across Languages having freedom in selecting your assignments.
·The interpreter will be responsible for providing interpretation services in person and/or remotely (phone/video).
·The interpreter will be responsible for interpreting in a variety of settings including medical, legal, and community-based organizations.
Qualifications
·Fluency in English and another language.
·Professional interpretation training or certification is a plus but not required to start.
·No professional experience is required. We provide training for those willing to learn to become an interpreter.
·Excellent communication skills.
·Emotional intelligence and ability to stay impartial during the assignments.
·Be a self-starter and comfortable working independently.
·Knowledge of medical and legal terminology is a plus.
·A commitment to cultural competence and sensitivity.
·A passion for serving diverse communities.
