Freelance Bookkeeper Wanted – Flexible, Remote-Friendly (Toronto-based preferred)
We’re looking for a detail-oriented, reliable freelance bookkeeper to support our growing business. You’ll play a key role in keeping our financials accurate, organized, and up to date. This is a part-time, remote-friendly role—perfect for an experienced bookkeeper who enjoys working independently and takes pride in clean, well-maintained books.
Scope of Work:
- Full-Cycle Bookkeeping:Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including overhead transaction entry, bank and credit card reconciliations, and general ledger oversight.
- Accounts Payable (AP):Manage vendor statement reconciliation and payment schedules, and
ensure timely and accurate payments. Maintain organized records via Xero for reporting and audit support.
- CRA Filings:Prepare and file HST returns, reconcile against accounting records, and coordinate with our accountant for corporate tax filings and year-end compliance.
- Basic Inventory Accounting:Record manual journal entries for inventory at month-end, support basic inventory reconciliation, and ensure accuracy of cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting.
- Month-End Close & Fixed Assets:Complete month-end close processes including posting accruals, managing amortization schedules, and tracking depreciation of fixed assets.
- Payroll & Expenses:Coordinate with the business to collect employee hours, run payroll through our payroll provider, and ensure accurate payroll journal entries and reconciliations. Track reimbursements and maintain up-to-date expense records aligned with CRA requirements.
- EHT & WSIB Filings:Prepare and submit Employer Health Tax (EHT) and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) filings, ensuring compliance and timely remittances.
- General Ledger & Financial Reporting:Maintain clean and accurate ledgers. Generate and deliver monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, trial balance), and flag unusual activity or variances for leadership review.
WhatWe’re Looking For:
- 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax, payroll, and regulatory filings
- Proficiency in Xero (Xero Advisor Certification is a plus)
- Diploma in accounting or a Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) designation preferred
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently
- Bonus: Experience with inventory-based or manufacturing businesses
Hours & Compensation:
- Estimated 10–15 hours/week to start
- Hourly rate: $35–$45/hour, depending on experience
