Job Description

We are seeking a fractional-to-start Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide strategic and technical leadership across additive manufacturing hardware and software architecture, and the integration of AI and workflow automations. The successful candidate must have extensive experience in and demonstrated specialized knowledge of additive manufacturing. While part-time to start, this role is intended to evolve into a full-time engagement with commensurate compensation and participation in the company’s employee stock option plan.

The ideal candidate will drive the technical vision, architecture, and execution strategy for Building Bloc’s digital manufacturing system. This individual will provide deep technical expertise while ensuring scalability, security, and regulatory compliance in both software and hardware systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the long-term technical roadmap for Building Bloc’s microfactory product development.
• Lead R&D prioritization, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
• Oversee design and product development.
• Define governance frameworks to ensure safe and reliable deployment of systems.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring resilience and continuous uptime in mission-critical environments.
• Support alignment of intellectual property (IP), commercialization, and technology transfer with Building Bloc’s growth strategy.
• Mentor and build an internal technical team of engineers.
• Define technical hiring roadmaps to scale expertise.
  

Requirements

• 8+ years expertise in additive manufacturing is required.
• 8+ years of experience in software architecture development.
• Expertise in distributed manufacturing, digital supply chains, and industrial IoT integration.
• Strong background in ERP, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), and AI-driven automation.
• Proven ability to translate emerging technologies into strategic, scalable, commercial implementations for partners.
• Experience navigating regulatory ecosystems.
• Ability to translate technical vision into strategic execution while engaging with government, industry, and operational end-users.
• Prior experience in a CTO, VP Engineering, or Senior Technical Advisory role.
