Role - Fractional CFO – Growth Partner to Marketing Agencies

At Argento CPA, we’re not just closing books — we’re helping creative agency founders scale smarter. We’re looking for a Fractional CFO to act as a strategic right hand to the founder and a key financial leader across a portfolio of high-performing, fast-growing marketing and digital agencies ($2M–$10M+ revenue).

This role is all about clarity, confidence, and control. You’ll lead forecasting, pricing strategy, profitability analysis, and cash planning — so agency founders can make better decisions, faster. You’ll have full support from a controller-led bookkeeping team and access to modern tools, models, and systems like QuickBooks Online, Fathom, and Reach Reporting to help you deliver true financial leadership.

  • You’ll guide decision-making during growth, hiring, and exit prep.
  • Your job is to make sure nothing in the business is financially unclear — and everything is aligned to scale.

External responsibilities

  • Act as CFO for a portfolio of high-growth creative agencies ($2M–$10M+ revenue).
  • Lead monthly and quarterly strategy calls with clients — backed by clean financials.
  • Build and maintain 12-month forecasts, budget vs. actual tracking, and scenario models.
  • Advise on pricing strategy, service mix profitability, and team planning.
  • Help founders track cash flow, manage payables, and set compensation/dividend strategy.
  • Surface insights from QBO, P&L trends, and dashboards to drive real action.
  • Support funding, grant, or exit planning with clean data and compelling narratives.
  • Help onboard new clients with support of accounting team and develop SOPs.

Internal responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Controllers and Finance Teams to ensure timely, accurate reporting.
  • Review monthly packages: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, KPIs.
  • Refine processes for automated reporting, forecasting tools, and client dashboards.
  • Refine processes for forecasting, tax installment planning, and client onboarding.
  • Identify and solve issues fast — from incorrect allocations to scope creep.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge base, SOPs, and financial model templates.

Results we expect

  • Strategic finance calls completed on time, with clear recommendations and action steps.
  • Forecasts and budgets updated quarterly — and actually used by the client.
  • Clients are clear on cash flow, tax, and profitability — no more surprises.
  • Client decisions improve as a direct result of your input.
  • High client satisfaction and strong LTV due to your financial leadership.

What you bring

  • 10+ years in finance leadership (Fractional CFO, Controller, or FP&A roles).
  • Deep understanding of agency operations, labor efficiency, and margin structure.
  • Expert-level knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO) and experience optimizing setups for client insights.
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards and client reports using tools like Fathom, Reach, or similar.
  • Strong forecasting, modeling, and pricing strategy chops.
  • CPA or equivalent preferred — but strategic experience and judgment matter more.
  • Excellent communicator who can distill complexity into clarity.
  • Proficient with QBO, Dext, Plooto, Wagepoint, and cloud finance tools.
  • Comfortable leading client calls and owning outcomes.

Compensation

Comp range: $160K–$190K CAD

Bonus plan: Up to 50% of salary, tied to gross profit and performance
